Fix the constraint, not the symptom
Most upgrade requests describe a symptom: low growth, night-time mortality, poor conversion, rising power bills. The underlying constraint is usually oxygen, flow, temperature or feed management. Identifying which one is binding before buying equipment prevents the common outcome of installing more aeration on a farm that is actually limited by flow or by biofilter capacity.

For an operating farm, service response time and spare-part availability affect production more than the purchase price does. Ask every bidder for local service coverage, commissioning support, a recommended spares kit and typical lead times, and record their answers alongside the price.

Peak biomass sets aeration and oxygenation capacity, the dominant cost in most upgrades.
Efficiency premiums pay back faster on expensive or unreliable power; backup capacity may be mandatory.
Manual, semi-automatic and fully automated feeding and monitoring differ widely in capital and staffing.
