What supplier qualification means — and what it does not mean.

FishMatch Group is an independent B2B procurement and sourcing platform for commercial aquaculture projects from USD $250K+, connecting buyers with qualified third-party equipment suppliers, EPC partners, engineering firms and independent financing providers. We prepare RFQs and enable supplier comparison. We do not build, install, engineer, operate or finance farms, we do not certify, endorse, insure or guarantee any supplier or project performance, and we are not a party to supply, EPC, logistics or financing contracts.

What qualification means

  • Company existence, registration details and trading history were reviewed on the basis of information provided by the supplier or available publicly.
  • Product scope, capacity and target species were checked against the category the supplier is matched to.
  • Export experience, incoterms practice and service coverage in the buyer's region were discussed.
  • Warranty, spare-parts and after-sales terms were requested in writing as part of the RFQ.
  • Project references may be requested, and are passed to the buyer for independent verification.
  • Certifications (ISO, CE, HACCP, food-contact, electrical) may be requested as copies — copies are forwarded, not audited.

What it does not mean

  • It is not a certification, accreditation, audit or inspection of the supplier.
  • It is not an endorsement or recommendation, unless FishMatch states one explicitly in writing.
  • It is not a guarantee of quality, lead time, delivery, installation, commissioning, warranty performance or financial standing.
  • It does not confirm that documents or references supplied by the supplier are authentic or current.
  • It does not transfer any supplier obligation to FishMatch — the supply contract is between buyer and supplier only.
  • It does not replace the buyer's own due diligence, factory audit, legal review or credit check.

The qualification process, step by step

Qualification is a documentary and commercial review carried out before a supplier receives buyer RFQs. It is designed to make offers comparable — not to certify, audit or guarantee any supplier.

  1. Step 1

    Intake & scope screen

The supplier declares product categories, species, capacity classes, target project sizes (FishMatch works on projects from USD $250K+) and the markets it can serve and service.

  2. Step 2

    Documentary review

Registration details, trading history, export experience, incoterms practice and any certification copies the supplier chooses to submit are reviewed as documents only — they are not audited or authenticated.

  3. Step 3

    Commercial terms review

Warranty, spare-parts availability, lead times, payment structure and after-sales coverage are requested in writing so buyers can compare offers on the same basis.

  4. Step 4

    Category matching

The supplier is mapped to specific categories (RAS, hatchery, water treatment, aeration, feeding, monitoring, cages, pond systems, processing, cold chain, turnkey EPC) and to the markets where it has demonstrated service reach.

  5. Step 5

    RFQ conduct

Suppliers must respond to structured RFQs using the common response template, disclose exclusions, and keep buyer information confidential.

  6. Step 6

    Ongoing review & removal

Buyer feedback, non-response, misrepresentation, refusal to disclose exclusions or unresolved delivery complaints can result in suspension or removal from matching. Removal is a matching decision, not a legal finding.

Buyer due diligence remains with the buyer

  • Verify the supplier's legal entity, ownership and financial standing before payment.
  • Contact project references directly and, where the project justifies it, arrange a factory or site visit.
  • Have the supply, EPC, logistics and financing contracts reviewed by your own legal advisor.
  • Confirm that certifications, import permits, electrical standards and biosecurity rules meet local requirements.
  • Agree payment terms, retention, FAT/SAT acceptance criteria and liquidated damages directly with the supplier.

Frequently asked questions

Does FishMatch verify suppliers?

FishMatch performs a documentary qualification review based on information the supplier provides and information available publicly. That review is not an audit, inspection or certification, and it does not verify the accuracy of supplier-provided documents.

What does 'qualified supplier' mean on FishMatch?

It means the supplier passed FishMatch's documentary qualification review for the relevant category and market, and agreed to respond to structured RFQs. It does not mean the supplier is certified, endorsed or guaranteed by FishMatch.

Does FishMatch guarantee supplier quality, delivery or performance?

No. Pricing, technical design, equipment supply, logistics, customs, installation, commissioning, warranties and project performance are the responsibility of the independent third-party supplier or EPC partner. FishMatch is not a party to those contracts.

Who is responsible for due diligence?

The buyer. FishMatch provides structured comparison inputs — scope, references, terms — but the buyer makes the selection decision and remains responsible for legal, financial and technical due diligence.

Can a supplier pay to be ranked higher?

No. FishMatch does not publish rankings and does not sell placement. Matching is driven by project scope, species, capacity, market coverage and service reach.

Does qualification cover financing providers?

No. Financing introductions, where available, are made to independent third-party providers. FishMatch is not a lender, bank, insurer or regulated financial services provider, and approval and terms rest solely with the provider.

What project size does FishMatch work on?

FishMatch Group focuses on commercial aquaculture projects from USD $250K+ in equipment or CAPEX scope. Smaller enquiries are still welcome, but the structured RFQ and multi-supplier comparison workflow adds most value above that threshold.

Does FishMatch build, install, engineer or operate farms?

No. FishMatch is an independent procurement and sourcing platform. Engineering, construction, installation, commissioning, operation and financing are carried out by independent third-party suppliers, EPC partners, engineering firms and financing providers who contract directly with the buyer.

How is a supplier removed from matching?

Suppliers can be suspended or removed for misrepresentation, non-response to RFQs, refusal to disclose scope exclusions, confidentiality breaches or repeated unresolved buyer complaints. Removal is a commercial matching decision and is not a legal or regulatory finding about the supplier.

Do suppliers pay to be qualified or listed?

No. Suppliers do not pay for qualification, listing or placement. FishMatch is compensated only on a successful supplier-side transaction, and buyers are never charged.

Equipment scope

What equipment does a commercial aquaculture project actually need?

A grow-out project typically needs holding infrastructure (tanks, ponds or cages), water movement (pumps, piping, valves), aeration or oxygenation, water treatment appropriate to the system, feeding equipment, grading and handling gear, monitoring and alarms, and backup power. RAS adds mechanical filtration, biofiltration, degassing, disinfection and tighter process control. Hatchery and processing scopes are specified separately.

Which equipment should be specified before requesting quotes?

Specify the items whose sizing changes everything downstream: design biomass and stocking density, water exchange or recirculation rate, oxygen demand at peak temperature, and installed pumping head. With those four fixed, suppliers can quote aeration, filtration, pumps and power on the same basis. FishMatch calculators produce these figures and attach them to the RFQ.

Can equipment be sourced in stages?

Yes, and phased procurement is common. The usual sequence is water supply and holding infrastructure, then aeration and treatment, then automation and monitoring, then processing and cold chain. Staging works when interfaces and capacity headroom are defined at the start; otherwise later phases force replacement rather than addition.

Supplier selection criteria

How should a buyer compare aquaculture suppliers?

Compare on evidence, not on presentation: delivered projects at a similar scale and climate, engineering support during design, lead time commitments, spare-part and service availability in your region, certification and testing documentation, payment and warranty terms, and willingness to quote against your specification rather than substituting a catalogue package.

What are the warning signs in a supplier quotation?

Treat these as review triggers: no itemised scope, guaranteed biological or financial performance, no named delivery terms or lead time, no spare-parts or service statement, unclear responsibility for installation and commissioning, and equipment sizing that does not reference your water temperature, oxygen demand or biomass targets.

How does FishMatch handle supplier selection?

FishMatch is an independent sourcing layer, not a manufacturer or reseller. Requirements are structured into a single technical RFQ and routed to relevant producers; buyers receive comparable offers without supplier identities being exposed before they choose to proceed. Selection stays with the buyer — FishMatch standardises the comparison basis.
