Shrimp Farm Upgrade Economics: When Intensification Pays
How to test a shrimp pond intensification budget — added aeration, liners, nursery and monitoring — against extra yield, extra operating cost and payback.
Most shrimp farm upgrades are sold as hardware and judged as biology. The only defensible test is financial: how many extra kilos does the upgrade produce, at what extra cost per kilo, and how long does the capital take to come back. Start from yield and survival, not equipment
Semi-intensive ponds typically deliver 1–3 t/ha per cycle; lined intensive ponds with heavy aeration and a nursery phase reach 3–8 t/ha. The step between them is driven by survival and water quality control far more than by any single machine. Model current and target survival honestly — a two-point error there moves the payback more than the aeration brand.
Aeration and power move together

Cost per kilo usually rises before it falls
Higher density means more feed, more oxygen, more water exchange and more monitoring. Build the CAPEX case

Split upgrades across three suppliers and you will get three incompatible assumptions.
