Purpose
Aeration is the largest single power draw on most shrimp farms and the main safety margin against a night-time oxygen crash. This tool converts pond area, depth, stocking density, target harvest weight and aerator type into a preliminary aeration requirement in HP and kW, an indicative number of units and the energy cost of running them.

Limitations

- HP per tonne of peak biomass is a widely used planning heuristic, not a mass-balance design. Real oxygen demand varies with temperature, salinity, feeding rate, algal load and night-time respiration.
- Aerator placement decides circulation and sludge accumulation as much as total horsepower — the same HP badly placed will not protect the pond.
- Standardised aeration efficiency (kg O₂/kWh) differs sharply between paddlewheel, aspirator and diffused systems; ask suppliers for tested SAE and SOTR figures.
- Final aeration design must be validated by a qualified technical supplier or engineer before purchase.
