Procuring hatchery equipment: what to ask before signing

Survival targets, larval rearing tank uniformity, live-feed capacity and after-sales support — the questions that separate good vendors from great ones.

Before signing for a hatchery build — shrimp PL, marine finfish larval or freshwater fingerling — ask for documented survival rates and PL/fry quality from reference customers in a climate similar to yours, ask which spare parts (pumps, blowers, UV lamps) are stocked locally, and ask what the supplier's commissioning and biologist-training plan looks like.
