Aquaculture Procurement: The Buyer's Playbook

Aquaculture procurement is the end-to-end process of specifying, tendering, evaluating and contracting the equipment, engineering and services that make a commercial fish or shrimp farm bankable. Getting it right cuts CAPEX by 8–20% and prevents the biology-first, budget-later mistakes that sink most first-of-kind projects.

What supplier-neutral procurement actually means

FishMatch Group works for the buyer. We never take commission from the supplier chosen. Every RFQ you generate through the platform reaches multiple verified vendors that match your scope, budget and timeline — never one preferred vendor. Comparisons are on published KPIs, not sales narratives.

How to structure an aquaculture RFQ

A bankable RFQ isolates scope, KPIs, guarantees and commercial terms. Anything an EPC would call a design decision belongs in the specification, not left to the vendor.

  • Species, life-stage, capacity (t/yr), and target harvest schedule.
  • Mass balance targets: DO, TAN, CO₂, alkalinity, TSS, salinity.
  • Utility envelopes: kWh/kg, L/kg make-up water, m³/h peak flow.
  • Guarantees: mortality, growth, FCR, availability, energy — with penalty clauses.
  • Delivery model: DDP vs FOB vs turnkey vs supply-and-supervise.
  • Documentation: FAT protocol, SAT protocol, spare-parts strategy, training scope.

Supplier evaluation without ranking

Weight technical fit, references, financial strength, service network and warranty terms — then price. A vendor that saves 6% CAPEX but has no reference at your scale in your country is a false economy.

Reducing procurement risk

The three largest failure modes we see: (1) scope gaps between owner, EPC and vendor; (2) missing FAT/SAT with penalty; (3) financing signed before permits. Every FishMatch RFQ template closes these gaps.

Connecting procurement to financing

An RFQ package is not just a purchase document — it's the technical annex a development bank or leasing partner will require. We structure RFQs so the same document supports both the tender and the financing application.
