  • Cooling, not heating, is the dominant energy line

    Ambient and intake temperatures push most systems into active chilling for part of the year. Chiller duty, heat rejection and insulation must be sized against summer peaks rather than annual averages, and they routinely dominate both CAPEX and the electricity bill.

  • Water scarcity forces high reuse and effluent reuse

    Freshwater is scarce and abstraction constrained, so inland projects run low-exchange designs on saline groundwater with denitrification, and often reuse effluent for halophyte or fodder irrigation. Include that treatment train in the base scope, not as an option.

  • Lead times and logistics change the schedule, not just the price

    Most process equipment is imported. Shipping, customs and site mobilisation in remote coastal or desert locations add months; build procurement lead time into the programme and hold spares on site from commissioning.

  • Biosecurity is a commercial requirement

    Shrimp projects targeting export or premium domestic supply need SPF broodstock, quarantine and documented biosecurity. That scope is a defined CAPEX and OPEX line and should be specified in the RFQ rather than assumed.

What drives the price differences between aquaculture equipment quotes?

What equipment does a commercial aquaculture project actually need?

A grow-out project typically needs holding infrastructure (tanks, ponds or cages), water movement (pumps, piping, valves), aeration or oxygenation, water treatment appropriate to the system, feeding equipment, grading and handling gear, monitoring and alarms, and backup power.
