What is different about RAS projects in China
Domestic equipment supply compresses CAPEX
Drum filters, biofilter media, pumps, blowers, oxygen equipment and control systems are all manufactured domestically at multiple quality tiers. The result is a very wide bid spread for nominally identical scope, so specify performance guarantees, materials and warranty terms — not just equipment names.
Discharge rules are the fastest-moving variable
Provincial water-quality and discharge enforcement has tightened significantly and drives investment toward higher reuse and better effluent treatment. Confirm current provincial requirements before fixing exchange rate and treatment scope; this is the most common cause of late redesign.
Regional climate splits the design
Northern facilities carry a heating load in winter, southern facilities carry cooling in summer, and both push heat exchange onto the intake and discharge streams. Model the temperature-control energy line against the actual province, not a national average.
Quality tiering matters more than price
The gap between a low-tier and a reference-grade Chinese system is not the process diagram — it is instrumentation, redundancy, materials and after-sales support. Those four items are where lifetime cost is decided and should be scored explicitly in bid comparison.

Operator availability in China
- China has the largest pool of practical RAS operating experience globally, so technicians and site managers with closed-system background can generally be recruited domestically within weeks to a few months.
- Experience concentrates by species and region — turbot and flounder in Shandong and Liaoning, grouper and marine finfish in the south. Recruit against your species, because operating practice does not transfer cleanly between them.
- Documentation and control-system language are usually Chinese-first. Foreign investors should specify bilingual documentation, HMI language and training materials in the RFQ, otherwise handover and audit become a persistent friction point.
- After-sales service response varies enormously between suppliers. Contract a defined response window, spares availability and a named service contact; this single term separates otherwise identical bids on lifetime cost.

Budget ranges depend on system type, not on country alone. What drives the price differences between aquaculture equipment quotes?
