Common mistakes in West Africa
Asking for a price with no tonnage or system
A request for "fish farm equipment prices" produces incomparable numbers. Tonnage, species and system type must come first — they define the equipment list.
Designing for continuous power
Equipment sized on nameplate kW with continuous supply becomes a diesel burden. State real grid hours and ask for energy per kilogram produced, plus a hybrid option priced separately.
Skipping water testing
Yield, temperature, salinity and key chemistry decide achievable biomass and treatment scope. Without a test, filtration and aeration quotes are guesses that get revised upward after purchase.
Leaving feed and fingerlings out of the plan

Building full design capacity in phase one
Fixed costs then run against partial production. Phase the build, design the utilities for final tonnage, and tell suppliers which phase they are quoting.
Zero buffer for freight and clearing
Commissioning dates set without shipping and port clearing slip, which pushes stocking into the wrong season and idles paid staff.
No spares or service plan
One blower, one pump and one probe with no spares means any failure becomes a mortality event. Spares, consumables and a named service response belong in the quote.
