Common mistakes in Nigeria
Sizing aeration for grid power that does not exist
Blowers and paddlewheels are specified on nameplate kW assuming continuous supply. Quote aeration against the hours you actually have, with a generator or hybrid plan for the rest, or oxygen crashes during outages.
Requesting a price without tonnage or system
"Send me a price for a fish farm" cannot be quoted. Suppliers need species, tonnes per year and system type before any equipment list exists.
Ignoring feed cost in the plan
Feed is usually the largest operating line. A plan that omits FCR and a local feed source is not bankable and will not survive a lender review.
Buying tank capacity before water capacity
Borehole yield and water quality determine achievable biomass. Tanks bought before a pump test frequently sit half-stocked.
Treating clearing time as zero
Imported equipment needs shipping plus port clearing. Commissioning dates set without that buffer slip and push stocking into a bad season.
Buying one unit of everything, no spares
A single blower, pump or DO probe with no spare means a failure becomes a mortality event. Spares and consumables belong in the RFQ.
