Water quality is the set of measured conditions the stock lives in: dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, alkalinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, carbon dioxide, salinity, suspended solids and, in marine systems, specific ions. Each parameter has a safe band per species and life stage.

Through source-water treatment, aeration or oxygenation, mechanical solids removal, biological filtration, degassing, buffering and continuous monitoring with alarms — sized together, not bought separately.

Because source-water chemistry decides the treatment train. Without it, suppliers assume clean water, and the missing treatment appears later as a variation order.

Safe ranges are species- and temperature-specific, so the design target belongs with your biologist or engineer. What matters commercially is that the oxygen system is sized for peak biomass and peak temperature, not average conditions.

Poorer or more variable source water adds treatment stages, power draw and monitoring, raising both CAPEX and the operating cost per kilogram produced.
