Short answer
Ghana's feed manufacturing base is built around poultry pellet mills of 3–15 t/h concentrated in the Tema and Accra belt, with a long tail of 1–4 t/h regional mash mills near the maize and soy supply in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo. Floating aquafeed extrusion is scarce — a handful of 0.5–3 t/h lines mostly in the Volta/Akosombo corridor — and water-stable shrimp feed is largely imported through Tema. Planning bands for 2026: poultry compound USD 430–620/t, extruded tilapia feed USD 780–1,150/t, imported shrimp and marine grades USD 1,150–1,900/t landed. MOQs run 10–25 t domestic, 40 t+ for shrimp grades, 50 t for toll campaigns.

Where capacity sits geographically
The densest cluster: port access for imported soybean meal, fishmeal and premix, grid power, and the practical landing point for imported aquafeed. Most bulk feed contracts in Ghana are priced ex-Tema.

Where floating tilapia feed demand sits, next to the cage-farm cluster. Extrusion capacity here is the binding constraint on cage expansion.

Certifications to require in an RFQ
Mandatory for any feed sold domestically. Ask for the current registration class and the product list it covers, not just a certificate photo.
Applies to bagged compound feed; also relevant when your buyer's bank asks for pre-shipment inspection.
Held by a small minority of Ghanaian mills. Required by most institutional buyers and by lenders financing an offtake contract.
Effectively required for ECOWAS regional export and for feed used in export-bound aquaculture. Very few in-country holders — usually a reason to import or upgrade.
The real quality differentiator in Ghana's maize- and soy-based rations. Ask for lot-level test frequency and the action limit used, in ppb.
Requested by EU-bound tilapia and shrimp buyers; achievable but narrows the raw-material pool and raises price by roughly 4–8%.
How to run the RFQ
- 1. Fix the specification. Species, pellet size and type (floating / sinking / crumble), crude protein and lipid, monthly tonnage, bagging, delivery point.
- 2. Convert biology into tonnage. Use the feed budget calculator and the FCR calculator so the RFQ carries a defensible annual volume.
- 3. Compare on cost per kg of fish, not per tonne of feed. A cheaper pellet with a worse FCR is usually the more expensive option.
- 4. Keep an import fallback. Where in-country capability is missing — shrimp grades, starter crumbles — we quote regional and imported options in parallel.
