How this estimate is calculated
Cost of Poor FCR Calculator · calculation version 0.9.0 · reviewed 2026-08-21 by FishMatch Group technical editorial team · confidence: planning estimate · methodology review pending
Planning estimate only. Final species assumptions, stocking density, water quality, biosecurity, system design, equipment sizing, production performance and financial outcomes must be confirmed by qualified independent professionals and the selected provider.
Purpose
Feed is normally the largest single operating cost on a fed aquaculture farm, so the gap between your current feed conversion ratio and a realistic target converts directly into money. This tool compares two FCR scenarios at the same annual production, shows the difference in feed tonnage and cost, and expresses that difference as the annual budget available for feeding, monitoring and control infrastructure. It is scenario modelling, not a performance guarantee — no equipment supplier can promise an FCR.

Limitations
- This tool has not yet passed the documented-methodology review. Treat every output as an unverified planning estimate.
- FCR is a biological and management outcome. Equipment can improve feed delivery accuracy, feeding frequency and waste visibility, but no supplier can contractually guarantee a feed conversion ratio.
- Use realistic scenario values from your own historical cycles rather than best-published benchmarks.
- Overfeeding also increases organic load, which raises oxygen demand and water-treatment duty — the true cost of poor feed control is usually higher than the feed line alone.
- Payback shown is simple payback on the feed difference only. A full investment case should include energy, labour, maintenance, financing cost and downtime risk.
- FishMatch Group is supplier-neutral and does not provide nutritional or veterinary advice.
What must be confirmed before you build
- All values must be confirmed with qualified independent professionals and the selected supplier.

Review every value above, correct anything that does not match your site, then transfer the reviewed figures into a structured RFQ. Nothing is sent to any supplier until you approve it. Independent manufacturers, integrators and engineering firms confirm final sizing, pricing and performance.
