Viet Nam seafood exports: 2024 position, EU-listed establishments and what to verify

Short answer: FAO ranks Viet Nam fourth for all fisheries and aquaculture exports in 2024 (about US$8.3 billion, a broad measure covering shrimp, pangasius, tuna and other products). 517 Vietnamese establishments are on the EU list for fishery products; buyers confirm the species, form and plant for each lot.

What the 2024 figures show

FAO's estimate of US$8.3 billion covers all fisheries and aquaculture products, so it is not a shrimp-only figure. The customs tables used on this site do not include a separate verified Viet Nam shrimp export line, so none is shown.

Viet Nam also imports raw material: India reported US$241 million of frozen shrimp exports to Viet Nam in 2024, likely including product for processing and re-export.

FAO also notes new US tariffs on fishery products from Viet Nam disrupting trade: check current tariffs before pricing for the US.

EU-listed fishery establishments

Viet Nam establishments on the EU list for fishery products: 517 (list updated 27 August 2026).

One establishment can be listed for more than one activity, so activity counts can add up to more than the total.

Approvals can change: establishments are added, suspended and removed, and these counts are a snapshot read on 23 October 2026. A listing covers fishery products in general — it does not name species or show that a plant handles frozen shrimp — and it does not replace other requirements such as health certificates or IUU catch certificates. FishMatch does not republish establishment names and does not imply any listed plant is a FishMatch supplier. Before contracting, check the live list and the exact approval number, and our team checks named plants during each request review.

Questions

Is the FAO figure Viet Nam's shrimp exports?
No. It covers all fisheries and aquaculture products. A shrimp-only figure would need a separate customs source.
