How many hectares are needed for a shrimp farm?

It depends on intensity, not on the species. Semi-intensive Vannamei ponds typically produce 3–8 t/ha/year, intensive lined ponds 15–40 t/ha/year and super-intensive systems far more. A 1,000 t/year semi-intensive farm therefore needs roughly 125–300 ha of water area, while an intensive farm can reach the same output on 25–60 ha with much higher aeration and energy demand.

How much aeration does a shrimp pond need?

Plan on roughly 0.8 kW of installed aeration per tonne of standing biomass in semi-intensive ponds, 2–3.5 kW in intensive and super-intensive ponds, and add oxygen back-up above ~5 kg/m³. The planner converts your production target into standing biomass, oxygen demand in kg O₂/day and installed aeration kW with redundancy.

How much feed does a 5,000 tonne fish farm require?

How much oxygen does RAS require?

RAS oxygen demand tracks biomass and feed load: plan on roughly 300–350 mg O₂ per kg of biomass per hour, so 100 t of standing biomass needs on the order of 700–850 kg of oxygen per day, plus degassing, backup LOX and alarms. This is a planning estimate, not an engineering specification.

How much electricity does an aquaculture farm use?

Aeration, pumping and filtration dominate. Intensive ponds typically run 0.5–1.5 kWh per kg produced, RAS 3–6 kWh per kg. The planner estimates peak load, annual kWh and the generator size needed to protect critical loads — in intensive systems a power failure can kill the crop within hours.

Pond or RAS — which is appropriate?

Ponds suit warm climates with land and water available and the lowest CAPEX per tonne. RAS suits high-value species, cold or water-scarce sites, biosecurity-critical production and locations close to market — at 3–5× the CAPEX and much higher energy and skill requirements. The planner never recommends RAS automatically; it compares the systems commercially used for your species and country.
