    Design biosecurity zoning before you spec any equipment

    Larval, live-feed, broodstock and quarantine areas must have separate personnel and water flow paths. Retrofitting zoning after commissioning is disproportionately expensive.

    Match hatchery output to the grow-out stocking calendar

    Excess PL / fry can rarely be sold profitably. Size larval tanks and live-feed for real grow-out demand curves, not nameplate capacity.

    Lock down broodstock health status early

    For shrimp, an SPF / SPR sourcing plan (Hawaii, Florida, Singapore, Ecuador) should be in place before civil works start — lead times are long and biosecurity depends on it.
