Cumplimiento de calidad de agua en acuicultura
La regulación de calidad de agua cubre captación y efluentes. Cada operación comercial debe mantener permisos para ambos, un programa de monitoreo documentado y un plan de manejo de lodos.

Water quality regulation is where most avoidable compliance failures happen — the operating envelope is exact, monitoring is continuous, and violations trigger both immediate operational restrictions and long-term reputational damage.
Intake water quality — the compliance point buyers forget
Regulators increasingly require documented intake water quality — not just discharge quality — to demonstrate the operation is not concentrating contaminants. Bring 12 months of intake data to the permit conversation.
Effluent parameters and their limits
TSS, nutrients (TN, TP), BOD, ammonia, dissolved oxygen at outfall, faecal coliforms (where relevant), specific pathogens. Limits vary by jurisdiction and receiving-water body — check both national law and local receiving-water permits.
Monitoring cadence
Continuous for critical parameters (DO at outfall, flow); daily or weekly for TSS, ammonia; monthly for TN/TP; quarterly for full analytical panel. Actual cadence depends on permit conditions and operation scale.
Sludge and solids
Sludge from mechanical filtration and biofilter backwash is a permitted waste stream. Land-application, composting or dedicated waste-water treatment must be authorised. Under-permitted sludge disposal is one of the most cited violations.
Errores comunes
- Sizing effluent treatment for average, not peak load.
- Missing continuous monitoring on parameters that require it.
- No baseline water-quality data (12+ months) before permit application.
- Ignoring seasonal variability in receiving-water assimilation capacity.
Checklist del comprador
- Baseline water quality (12+ months) from proposed intake and receiving-water points.
- Effluent design sized for peak biomass, not commissioning.
- Continuous monitoring where required; validated grab-sample protocol otherwise.
- Alarm thresholds set inside permit limits with corrective action defined.
- Sludge and solids management plan permitted and documented.
- Emergency discharge protocol authorised by regulator.
