How much power does a RAS use?

Pumping, oxygen supply and temperature control dominate the load. Connected power rises with flow rate, total head and treatment intensity; size it with the project sizer before asking suppliers for prices.

How much water does a RAS exchange?

Most commercial RAS replace roughly 5–10% of system volume per day, depending on species, feed load, treatment and discharge rules. Lower exchange means heavier treatment and higher energy.

Is RAS more expensive than ponds?

Capex and energy per tonne are higher, offset by biosecurity, site independence, water savings, year-round output and proximity to market.

How much aeration do shrimp ponds need?

Aeration follows biomass and feeding rate, not pond area alone. Intensive ponds need substantially more installed aeration per hectare than semi-intensive ones; oxygen demand peaks late in the cycle.

Which equipment matters most in a shrimp farm?

Aeration, pond liners, intake and water treatment, automatic feeders, pumps and water-quality monitoring — in that order for most intensive projects.

Can I convert a fish farm to shrimp?

Sometimes. Salinity, pond depth, aeration capacity, intake treatment and biosecurity usually need rework, so treat it as a redesign rather than a swap of stock.

Water availability and quality, temperature range, power supply, discharge and permitting options, logistics to market and access to trained workforce.

Which permits are required?

It varies by country, but typically water abstraction, effluent discharge, environmental impact assessment, construction approval and an aquaculture or veterinary licence.
