Why post-larvae quality matters before anything else
Stocking material is one of the few inputs a farm cannot correct after the fact. Health status, size consistency, line characteristics and how animals are packed and acclimated all influence how a cycle starts. Diseases such as white spot disease and acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) are tracked internationally by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), and importing countries set their own health and permit requirements for live crustaceans.
Terms such as SPF (specific pathogen free) and SPR (specific pathogen resistant) mean different things. An SPF claim refers to a named list of pathogens and a testing and surveillance history for a population; it is not the same as resistance to disease. Ask exactly which pathogens, which programme, which laboratory, which methods and which dates sit behind any claim — and confirm them with the issuing body or competent authority.
What FishMatch does — and does not do — for post-larvae buyers
FishMatch Group is a buyer-first sourcing service. A member of the FishMatch team reviews your production plan and post-larvae requirements, may ask follow-up questions, and decides whether researching suppliers is appropriate. Where it is, FishMatch contacts relevant providers on your behalf and relays comparable answers. Suppliers are never contacted automatically.
FishMatch does not breed, sell, import, export, certify or approve post-larvae, hatcheries or health status, and it does not obtain permits. The on-site AI assistant helps you structure a brief; it does not return supplier shortlists, prices or supplier names. Nothing on this page is a promise of availability, survival, growth or delivery.
What to specify: species, line, health status and logistics
A clear specification lets different providers answer the same question. Include: species (for example Penaeus vannamei or Penaeus monodon); any line or performance characteristics you require and how you expect them to be evidenced; required health-status documentation and the pathogens it must cover; target stage or size at delivery; grow-out salinity and temperature range; whether animals go to a nursery or directly to grow-out; volume per stocking and the stocking calendar; destination country and farm location; and the documents your import permit requires.
Treat specialty requests — low-salinity grow-out, high-density tank systems, organic or certification-linked supply — as requirements to be evidenced, not as labels. Ask for documents that can be checked and record which statements are supplier claims and which you have verified.
How a sourcing request moves through FishMatch
Step 1 — Brief. You submit the request form (the AI chat can help you prepare it) with species, volume, schedule, destination and required documents.
Step 2 — Human review. A FishMatch team member reviews the brief and aims to send a first reply within one business day. Missing information is requested before any outreach.
Step 3 — Research and outreach, where appropriate. FishMatch identifies relevant providers and asks them to respond to the same scope. Response timing depends on the providers; FishMatch does not promise quotes, prices or dates.
Step 4 — Comparison. Responses are summarised side by side, with supplier statements labelled as claims until evidence is provided and checked. You decide whether to proceed. Purchase contracts, health certificates and import permits remain matters between the buyer, the supplier and the competent authorities.
Confidentiality: what is protected and how
Your request is not published and is accessible only to authorised FishMatch personnel and the service providers needed to run the service, as described in the Privacy Policy. FishMatch does not show supplier names, websites or contact details to buyers, and does not share your contact details with a supplier without your approval.
These are working rules backed by access controls, not a guarantee: no online system is completely secure, and FishMatch does not claim otherwise. Avoid sending information you are not permitted to share.
Financing is a separate, consent-based step
FishMatch is not a lender, broker of record or financial adviser. A financing request is handled separately from sourcing: FishMatch may help prepare project information, but any introduction to an independent provider requires your separate, explicit consent first. No approval, rate, amount or term is promised, and all financing decisions are made by the provider.
Cross-border live shipments: the rules depend on the countries involved
Live post-larvae movements typically involve health certification from the exporting country's competent authority and import conditions set by the importing country — which may include permits, pre-approved sources, quarantine or testing on arrival. WOAH's Aquatic Animal Health Code provides international standards, but each country applies its own rules, and they change. Check whether any CITES listing or national conservation rule applies to the species you are moving.
Confirm current requirements directly with the competent authority in the destination country (and the exporting country) before you commit to a purchase. The buyer or importer of record is responsible for permits and arrival procedures; FishMatch can include the required documents in your brief so that responses address them.
How to start
Use the Request a quote button to submit a written brief, or open the chat to structure one first. There is no fee to submit a request. FishMatch's managed sourcing is designed for B2B projects with a total scope of about USD 250,000 or more; smaller requests are still saved and reviewed, and you will be pointed to free planning tools and guides.
