Dissolved oxygen, water exchange, liner integrity and feed distribution are all equipment decisions, and each affects energy use, labour and the risk of losses. Under-sized aeration or pumping limits what a pond can safely carry; over-specified equipment adds capital and running cost without benefit.

Because the right answer depends on pond geometry, stocking plan, salinity, climate, soil and available power, a generic package rarely fits. Sizing should come from your site data and be confirmed by a qualified engineer and the supplier.

Equipment scopes buyers bring to FishMatch

Typical scopes include paddlewheel and long-arm aerators, blower and diffuser aeration, HDPE or LLDPE liners with installation, pumps, standby generators and transfer switches, automatic feeders, water-quality sensors and monitoring, and harvest and cold-chain equipment — often combined into a farm-level package.

FishMatch's managed sourcing is designed for B2B project scopes of about USD 250,000 or more. Single-item purchases below that level are not handled as managed sourcing, but the request is still saved and you will be pointed to free planning tools.

How requests are reviewed and quotes compared

You start with a brief: pond area and depth, stocking plan, salinity, climate, power supply, existing infrastructure, destination country, timeline and budget. A FishMatch team member reviews it, asks for missing details and decides whether supplier research is appropriate. Suppliers are never contacted automatically.

Where outreach goes ahead, providers are asked to respond to the same scope, and responses are compared on scope inclusions and exclusions, capacity and sizing assumptions, energy and water requirements, lead time, warranty, installation, commissioning, spare parts and after-sales support. Supplier statements are labelled as claims until evidence is provided and checked.

Prepare the specification before asking for quotes

FishMatch's free calculators can give planning estimates for aeration, pumping, feed and cost per kilo. They are planning aids, not engineering designs or quotes: final sizing depends on site-specific data and must be confirmed by a qualified engineer and the supplier.

A specification that states assumptions openly protects you from comparing a complete offer with an incomplete one, and makes it clear what each supplier is — and is not — committing to.

Confidentiality: what is protected and how

Your request is not published and is accessible only to authorised FishMatch personnel and the service providers needed to run the service, as described in the Privacy Policy. FishMatch does not show supplier names, websites or contact details to buyers, and does not share your contact details with a supplier without your approval. No online system is completely secure, and FishMatch does not claim otherwise.

Financing is a separate, consent-based step

FishMatch is not a lender, lessor, broker of record or financial adviser. It may help prepare project information for a financing request, but any introduction to an independent provider requires your separate, explicit consent first. No approval, rate, amount or structure is promised; those decisions belong to the provider.

Country-specific checks before you buy

Voltage and frequency, import duties, product standards, electrical safety rules and local after-sales presence differ by country and should be part of every comparison. Confirm import and standards requirements with the relevant authorities or a licensed customs professional before committing.

FishMatch is not a freight forwarder, customs broker, inspection body or importer of record. You can state Incoterms, inspection and documentation requirements in your brief so that responses are comparable, and contract those services with providers you choose.

How to start

Equipment scope

What equipment does a commercial aquaculture project actually need?

A grow-out project typically needs holding infrastructure (tanks, ponds or cages), water movement (pumps, piping, valves), aeration or oxygenation, water treatment appropriate to the system, feeding equipment, grading and handling gear, monitoring and alarms, and backup power. RAS adds mechanical filtration, biofiltration, degassing, disinfection and tighter process control. Hatchery and processing scopes are specified separately.

Which equipment should be specified before requesting quotes?

Specify the items whose sizing changes everything downstream: design biomass and stocking density, water exchange or recirculation rate, oxygen demand at peak temperature, and installed pumping head. With those four fixed, suppliers can quote aeration, filtration, pumps and power on the same basis. FishMatch calculators produce these figures and attach them to the RFQ.

Can equipment be sourced in stages?

Yes, and phased procurement is common. The usual sequence is water supply and holding infrastructure, then aeration and treatment, then automation and monitoring, then processing and cold chain. Staging works when interfaces and capacity headroom are defined at the start; otherwise later phases force replacement rather than addition.
